Definition of an outstanding teacher

What is an outstanding teacher?  Bain says the best teachers “achieved remarkable success in helping their students learn in ways that made a sustained, substantial, and positive influence on how those students think, act, and feel” (Bain, 2004, p. 5).

*Actual classroom teaching performance may vary – what matters is the result.*  Perhaps this a difficult truth to accept, as teachers tend to focus on process and not the product.  It’s worth spending some time reflecting on this idea…
